The paper discusses the instances of attributing the masculine or feminine gender to the Moon and the Sun in English fiction and poetry. Such genderizing can follow either the established lingvocultural (literary) tradition or an author's individual view. The paper focuses on the significance of this kind of foregrounding in terms of the implied meaning and ensuing difficulties for translation
