Contemporary approaches to the effectiveness evaluation for alternative methods of medical treatment

In terms of contemporary lack of Russian healthcare system’s funds and the need of their rational usage, a number of healthcare technologies, including urology treat- ments, can be considered as alternative. The differences are significant. Level of in- novative approaches and level of costs are crucial. Nowadays the key approaches to the choice of the right medical treatment method involve series indicators. Usually we compare it through effectiveness that is based on costs per obtained effect or on costs per effectiveness of the treatment method. Based on the well-known methods of pharmacoeconomic analysis by calculating the cost-benefit, cost-effectiveness indicators, as well as the analysis of the willingness to pay we calculated the net profit obtained using alternative urology treatment methods. As a result, we jus- tify the economic advantages of using modern laser equipment over traditional interventions in the treatment of urological diseases especially for elderly patients.
