Current problems and tasks of reforming the training of students in pedagogical fields of study

The problem of decreasing prestige of the teaching profession is outlined. The social factors that determine its occurrence (decrease in material and ideological support for teachers) and internal problems of the education system that lead to a decline in the prestige of the profession (partial loss of the educational function by the school and the teacher, increase in the administrative workload, digitalization of the educational process, misalignment of personal and professional characteristics of the teacher and the needs of participants in educational relations; misalignment of the teacher’s competencies and the needs of modern society; problems of the content and timing of the implementation of educational programs for the training of future teachers) are highlighted. The results of a comparison of data obtained during surveys conducted among high school students in 2010 and 2024 are presented, which made it possible to identify problems associated with the professional and personal qualities of teachers. The necessary changes in the implementation of training of students of pedagogical universities and state measures to support the social status of the teacher are determined.
