Current problems of forest management in the region

The article considers the system of forest managements an economic activity. The author gives an overview of the current methods to assess management effectiveness of forest activities and identifies their features and shortfalls. The study presents the author’s method to evaluate the conduct and management of forestry activities, which sets another goal related to the estimation of results of the integrated production process (forestry and forest procurement) as a single continuous cycle. The method is tested on the materials of the Vologda Oblast and the regions with similar climatic conditions. As a result, the regions are ranked by the effectiveness of forest management. The work reveals sustainable crisis outcomes in the forestry activity in the Vologda Oblast, with the lack of funds and the quality of forestry activities being the main problems. To solve these problems it is advisable to establish an innovation fund for forest development.
