Actual tasks of drawing up of regional Red Books: current trends

Short history of development of idea of Red Books creation is presented. Analysis of the regional Red Books published in Russia is carried out. It is noted that in Russia due to operation of the nature protection legislation researches on identification of rare and endangered species of plants and animals are actively conducted. Mechanisms of development of the Red Book idea through creation of Red Books of large river basins are offered.
