Allusions as «building material» in a literary work (based on Boris Pasternak’s novel «Doctor Zhivago»)

The article examines one of the frequently used postmodernist techniques - allusion. The material used for the example is the novel by Nobel Prize laureate Boris Pasternak. The novel is analyzed in terms of various forms of allusion, such as mention-type allusions, factual allusions, and plot-based allusions. Excerpts from the works of great classical authors are presented as evidence. A conclusion is drawn regarding the effectiveness of the use of allusions in a literary text.
