Amur Region in the Peace Movement: The Historical Experience of Amur Residents’ Participation in the Signature Campaign Supporting the Appeal of the World Peace Council for the Conclusion of a Peace Pact between the Five Great Powers (1951)

The article examines the activities of the Soviet Committee for the Defense of Peace and its regional structures, focusing on the Amur Region in the early 1950s. Drawing on archival materials, it analyzes the formation of the regional committee, its diverse social composition, and its main fields of work. Particular attention is paid to the 1951 signature campaign for the World Peace Council's appeal for a peace pact between the five great powers, which became a crucial form of political and social mobilization. The study highlights the involvement of various social groups, methods of propaganda, organizational mechanisms, and the decisive role of Party supervision. It concludes that the regional peace movement was not only part of a nationwide campaign but also an important element of Soviet people’s diplomacy, designed to demonstrate broad popular support for the USSR’s foreign policy and to strengthen the country’s international standing during the Cold War.
