An analytical method of defining shadow areas of residential buildings and structures based on the use of the theory of sets is proposed. The developed method allows calculating the position of shadows at different orientation of building structures in a given terrain. The method is based on the use of a set of inequalities defining the points of a given plane (building area) that meet the specific requirements. The obtained areas were used in the automated synthesis of small displacements of construction objects in order to determine their location, taking into account the minimization of the occupied area and ensuring the maximum level of their illumination. The results of the research can be used in drawing up the layout plans of different residential buildings under construction in a given area.
