The article is devoted to the analysis of the transition of routing from IPv4 to IPv6 by increasing the bandwidth on the switches. The delay time that occurs at the communication nodes of the network route when processing data packets is analyzed. The advantages of processing time of the new protocol are determined. The cases of delays in which the packet is forced to be forwarded again in IPv4 are considered. As a result, it is determined that the IPv6 protocol has significant advantages over IPv4 when transmitting large data packets and a huge number of simultaneous network users.
