Analysis of the Criminogenic Impact of the Penitentiary Subculture on the Crime Rate in Places of Detention

The present study is aimed at a comprehensive study of the nature and organization of the penitentiary subculture, as well as tracking its historical evolution in Russia. The main attention is paid to the analysis of its impact on the criminogenic situation, the processes of criminal socialization and the level of recidivism. The central hypothesis of the study is the thesis that this subculture forms a stable, informal system that has a devastating effect on maintaining law and order in institutions of the penal system and significantly complicates the effective re-socialization of persons serving sentences.
