The lethality analysis for injuries of the cervical spine

The analysis was made of 51 case histories of the patients, who died of cervical spine injuries in the Tiumen 2-nd municipal clinical hospital within the period of 1990-1999. Motor trauma (33,3%) and fall from a height (27,5%) were main causes of the injuries. 45% of the victims were in the condition of alcoholic intoxication. Conservative therapy was made in 76% of the patients and only 24% of them were operated on. 16,7% of the victims were operated on the day of admission, 66,7% - in the first week. Subsequently it is necessary to improve rendering of the first medical aid and also to improve in-patient diagnostics and treatment.
