Summary We conducted a systematic analysis of periodic literature on surgical dental procedures in patients taking bisphosphonates therapy for the treatment of osteoporosis or cancer, with an assessment of the risk of jaw necrosis. Currently, bisphosphonates are used for the treatment of cancer and severe forms of osteoporosis. Bisphosphonate osteonecrosis can occur spontaneously or as a consequence of various surgical procedures (tooth extraction, resection, implantation, etc.). The study included 16 publications for the period 2002-2016 years; only papers with the groups ≥ 50 patients were considered. We analyzed the incidence of bisphosphonate necrosis of the jaws after dental surgical treatment with intravenous and oral administration of bisphosphonates, as well as the incidence of necrosis in patients with various techniques of management after dental intervention. The analysis of the articles did not show a consensus on biphosphonate treatment of patients with surgical dental interventions and emphasized the need to continue research in this area.
