The article discusses approaches to assessing the endurance and cyclic crack resistance of metal structural elements. It is noted that in national and international regulatory documents on the design of steel structures and on assessing the technical condition of steel elements of industrial buildings and structures that are in operation, there is no corresponding calculation methodology. It has been revealed that some building codes and regulations fragmentarily reflect approaches to the preliminary assessment of endurance with a number of load cycles of more than 105 (high-cycle fatigue), but without taking into account in some cases the qualitative change in the nature of damage accumulation. Special attention is paid to quasi-static fatigue, low-cycle fatigue, and survivability of steel structures. Methods for calculating various fatigue levels of metal structures are discussed in detail.
