The relevance of the topic, associated with the gap in scientific knowledge of effective possibilities of protection of gas turbine engines of aircrafts from the ingress of foreign objects and birds, served as a basis for conducting appropriate research. The aim of the research is to optimally select the option of linkage and assembly of the airliner gas turbine engine (GTE) protection structure. The paper presents modern technologies of innovative approaches to the protection of gas turbine engines from external threats, with a description of the consequences of such incidents, as well as methods to ensure flight safety. As the investigated method, a cone-shaped aircraft engine protection unit is chosen, which consists of individual elastic rods of circular cross-section, fastened together by several metal shells. The sequence of research execution is represented by the review of variants of the problem solution, i.e. selection of protective devices and development of our own, as well as the scheme of linking and assembly of the latter design, which predetermine the reliability and cost-effectiveness of the product. As a result of the conducted researches the choice of design of protective device of gas turbine engines of airliner, with the most optimal qualities and characteristics is offered, materials for its manufacturing are defined. Special attention is paid to the selection of the variant of linking and assembly of this design. Practical significance and prospects of the research are connected with the expected implementation of the protective device of airliner engines.
