Analysis of the Turgenev tradition in the themes of Ba Jin's works: dialogue of Chinese and Russian cultures

The modern Chinese writer Ba Jin is often called “the conscience of Chinese literature of the ХХ century”, “the role model of the Chinese intelligentsia”, “the master of literature” and “Chinese Turgenev”. Ba Jin left the world a large number of literary masterpieces: novels, short stories, essays, translations, biographies, etc. His works are closely related not only to the environment in which he was formed as a writer, but also to his social background, ideals and beliefs, literary perfection, etc. The influence of foreign literature on Ba Jin is also an important factor in the formation of his talent. The value of his work lies in the translation of a large number of works by Ivan S. Turgenev (“Fathers and Sons”, “Nov”, “Poem in Prose”, “Punin and Baburin”, “Mumu” and others) as well as in the transfer of the literary tradition of the Russian classic to Chinese soil. The article examines the themes and literary images of Ba Jin's works. The author analyzes Ba Jin's perception of Russian works and the influence of Turgenev's works on him. New Chinese works on literary criticism are being introduced into Russian scholarship.
