The article highlights the dominant global trends in assessing the quality of higher education. The relevance of the issue of choosing tools for assessing the quality of education in the context of globalization and increasing international educational competition is substantiated. Universal elements of the system for assessing the quality of higher education are listed. The analysis of the specifics of implementing accreditation and quality audit in different countries is carried out, the differences in these procedures in solving the general problem of assessing quality are shown. The contribution of independent accreditation agencies, international university rankings and benchmarking to maintaining a high level of quality of higher education is noted. A conclusion is made about the movement towards a personalized approach in assessing the activities of universities as an international trend.
