The article is devoted to the study of the features of the aesthetic concept of the French poet, playwright, scriptwriter, and artist Jean Cocteau. In his work, he repeatedly turned to the ancient myth, in particular to the myth of Orpheus, which he used not only as the structural basis of his works, but also as the basis of aesthetic and philosophical concepts. It is thanks to the ancient myth, that Jean Cocteau synthesized aesthetic innovations of the preceding cultural tradition with modern searchings in the field of literature and art.
