The article attempts to find similarities between the Epicurean, Stoic, skeptical schools of the Hellenistic era and ancient skepticism that are becoming relevant from the historical perspective. It is assumed that the roots of the modern society, that has developed, in particular, in the framework of postmodern de-monopolization of the truth, go to the Hellenistic era, when the question of relation between a thought and reality, the nature and criteria of true knowledge was rediscovered. The author comes to the conclusion that the Hellenistic philosophy in many ways anticipated the modern epistemological, ethical, social and philosophical ideas.
