The article is devoted to the years of study of A. V. Kartashev at the St. Petersburg Theological Academy, where the future Chief Prosecutor of the Holy Synod and the greatest church historian attended lectures by such outstanding scientists and researchers as Vasily Vasilyevich Bolotov, Ivan Savvich Palmov, Archpriest Pavel Nikolaevsky, and others. To reveal the stated topic, both sources directly related to the history of the capital’s Academy and the memoirs of Anton Vladimirovich himself are used. The period of Kartashev’s study at the Higher Theological School, on the one hand, was a time of immersion in the scientific atmosphere, on the other hand, it was a time of searching and a certain ideological crisis, which did not manifest itself fully on the school bench. The period of study at the capital’s theological school became decisive in the subsequent fate of A. V. Kartashev.
