V. V. Sedov’s anthropological studies. On the problem of the slavs’ ethnogenesis

Essential contribution to the studies of the Slavic ethnogenesis was madeby academician V. V. Sedov. Several decades of his scientific carrier were dedicated tothe cross-disciplinary study related to the analysis of ancient Slavic ethnicity developmentwithin Europe. He was one of the few who could be justifiably called a polymath inthis area. One of the examples of such multidimensional study is the cartographic anddistributional analysis of the anthropological features of the Medieval Slavs’ skulls. Inthis analysis V. V. Sedov relied not only on anthropological and linguistic materials he haddeveloped but also used data on artifacts in the chronological and geographical contextsas a professional archaeologist
