Bone and antler anthropomorphic figures dating to the stone age from the territory of Estonia -different styles, different interpretations?

Бесплатный доступ

The paper provides an overview of anthropomorphic figures found in Estonia. Such figures can be divided into two categories: a singular anthropomorphic sculpture found in the Parnu river and 11 small pendants made from antler plates discovered at Tamula I which is a settlement and a burial ground. Besides morphological and chronological differences, some differences are, apparently, of semantic nature. The final part of the paper emphasizes that the interpretation of the figures made by Stone Age hunter-gatherers should not be considered exhaustive. Most likely, the art of the Stone Age reflects different meanings even within the same economic system.
