Statement of the problem. This article analyzes the anthroponyms in I. V. Odoyevtseva’s novel Angel of Death. This author’s fiction remains understudied. The relevance of the research is determined by the general need to study anthroponyms as components of the conceptual sphere of the novel, which defines its ideological and aesthetic structure and reflects the author’s world view, necessary for an in-depth understanding of the work. The purpose of the article is a comprehensive study of the anthroponyms in I.V. Odoyevtseva’s novel The Angel of Death. Methodology. The method used in this work is hermeneutical, which makes it possible to interpret names as separate fragments (elementary units) of a work. The hermeneutic method helps to analyze a text from different angles, considering it from linguistic, historical and psychological points of view. Review of scientific literature on the problem. Scientific works devoted to the study of I.V. Odoevtseva’s prose and works devoted to literary onomastics were studied. Research results. The author convincingly proves that the names directly reflect the inner essence of the carrier characters and contain a profoundly generalizing characterization principle. Conclusions. The novel’s characters can be viewed as symbols, and the work’s parable-like qualities can be discussed. The discovery of parable elements offers a new perspective on I.V. Odoevtseva’s fiction.
