The article deals with genre structure, poetic and rhetorical system of apocryphal Ladder of Jacob included in Tolkovaja Paleja (Explanatory Palaia). In the study were analyzed the genre-constructive and auxiliary components of this narrative fragment, detected polysemy and semantic shift of symbolic meaning of the Ladder.
