Archaeological survey in Central and Southeastern Altai

Бесплатный доступ

In the article the results of archaeological survey undertaken by the author in the Onguday and Kosh-Agach districts of the Altai Republic in 2018 are considered. The purpose of our survey was both clarifying and copying of the already known and the search for new rock paintings. In the locality named Apshiyakta, an extraordinary composition of the ancient Turkic petroglyphs was surveyed. It includes the image of a woman in a three-horn headdress, images of deers, vessels, etc. By analogy, it dates in the early Turkic period, the second quarter of VI - the first half of the VII century. A survey of the northern spurs of the Salyugem ridge made it possible to discover six new petroglyphic sites. Most of them date in the late Bronze Age - the early Iron Age.
