Grandmother's archetype in works by I.A. Goncharov, M. Gorky and V.P. Astafyev: traditions and author's interpretation

In the article the grandmother’s type in the novel by Ivan A. Goncharov “The Precipice” (1869), the story by Maxim Gorky “The Childhood” (1913) and the book by Viktor P. Astafyev “The Last Bow” (1968, 1980, 1991) is described. The purpose of the work is an identification of typological lines of the image and also an explanation of individual and author’s differences in the description of the personage. The research method is comparative-historical. As the result of the analysis of the above-mentioned works some similarities in depicting the type are found: the internal force, eccentricity of nature, expressiveness of the verbal portraiture, hard fate, demeanor, far from being ideal, but at the same time authoritativeness of the moral principles. However, there are quite a few differences in the image determined by the peculiarities of the concrete author’s outlook.
