In the extreme conditions there is reinforcement of archetypes, which are represented by archetypal images in the public consciousness. During a war the most popular is the image of a hero, who has both universal features and national and cultural peculiarities. In the process of heroic symbolization, the archetype of "death - rebirth" is often used. During the Caucasian war the image of Cossack hero became popular, referring to actual prototypes - Cossack Generals N.P. Sleptsov, Y.P. Baklanov, F.A. Krukowsky. The archetypal folklore gave them not only universal features of hero archetype, but also specific signs, such as martial prowess and loyalty to the faith, the sovereign and the homeland. "Symbolic rebirth" of Cossack generals was carried out through public recognition of their military merits by the official authorities.
