Archimandrite Leonid (Kavelin) on the veneration of the monk Eleazar of Anzersk in Kozelsk

The personality of St. Eleazar of Anzersky, a native of the city of Kozelsk, attracted the attention of Archimandrite Leonid (Kavelin) due to the scientist's interest in the history of the Kaluga diocese. In addition to a brief biography of Eleazar, set out in one of the editions of the book about Optina Hermitage, Father Leonid mentioned the icons of the elder. The article is devoted to the analysis of these facts, which made it possible to link the veneration of St. Eleazar in his homeland with an understanding of his monastic and ascetic experience, which combined the ancient Russian traditions of the Orthodox faith and mystical Eastern Christianity.
