Arctic stratagems of Beijing

Strengthening the diplomatic and economic presence of China in the Far North is becoming an important factor in the foreign policy processes in the Arctic. The absence of an official regional strategy, which is accompanied by active steps of energy deficient China towards the Arctic Circle, evokes both scientific attention and concern of the international community. Russia, being the Arctic state with essential national interests in the Far North, at the same time is a strategic partner of China. A comprehensive study of China's policies in the circumpolar direction meets the challenges of building friendly inter-state relations in this region based on international law for the peaceful development of the Arctic.
