An overview was given about liquid-phase methods of producing aluminum matrix composites with disperse reinforcement of the alloy Al-5%Cu by particles TiC. The features and advantages of the application of the process of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) for creating nanostructured composites were discussed. The results of experiments were presented for obtaining the composition of Al-5% Cu-10%TiC with a homogeneous structure by the SHS of TiC nanoparticles when entering into the melt of the matrix alloy a mixture of elemental powders of titanium and carbon with the addition of halide salts Na2TiF6. A significant increase in the strength characteristics of the obtained nanostructured composite material while maintaining a high level of plasticity was shown.
