Studying Michel Foucault''s “History of Madness in the Classical Age" the article deals with the articulation of madness. Sacred madness (la folie), that pounces on chosen artists and opens the depths of being, is opposed by Foucault to insanity (la déraison), that conceals only the flatness of a moral transgression, converted by civilization into an object of psychology. French philosopher believes that the scientific discourse, possible on the ground of the moral-critical experience, that has replaced the tragic one, doesn’t possess the truth of madness. Finding the traces of Heidegger and Nietzsche in Foucault''s discourse, the author thinks that this difference, despite its historical factuality, fits into the mood of longing for mystery and sacredness, typical for contemporary philosophy.
