The purpose of the article is to describe and prove the effectiveness of the method developed by the authors for organizing course design using a learning management system. A variant of its organization within the framework of the student's independent work is considered. The issues of academic fraud are discussed, their author's classification is given, and the methods associated with copying ready-made texts and ordering works, including in relation to chatGPT, are highlighted. The shortcomings of the current organization of course design in higher education are fixed from the standpoint of the university administration, methodologists, students and teachers. The option of introducing a module-rating system for evaluating the results of term papers based on the recommendations of various authors is discussed and its shortcomings are noted. The author's asynchronous version of the organization of course design is proposed, based on the sequential control of the implementation of the stages of the course work using Moodle to return the unsatisfactory version of the work components to the executor. The results of the implementation and evaluation of term papers according to the proposed methodology are given.
