This article deals with the various approaches to the typology of audience as an essential component of art and culture. Basing on the ideas of M.E. Ille, A.N. Sokhor, N.A. Seliverstova and other researchers, the author develops an original typology of the ballet art audience. The perception of the art is considered as a culture of perception, as a reflection of the artistic reality; this way of interpretation contributes to the more accurate understanding of the mechanism of bringing a person to the art of ballet.
