The paper considers authenticity issues in teaching professionally oriented reading of specialized literature in foreign languages. Special attention is paid to the problem of using authentic texts. Main classifications and characteristics of authentic texts have been determined. The paper sets out the difference between the adapted texts and the synthesized ones.
