The author compares two short stories («The Adventure of the Second Stain» by A. C. Doyle and «The Submarine Plans» by A. Christie) that belong to the genre of a classic detective story and A. Azimov’s short story «Noch’, kotoraya umiraet» («Night that is dying» ) that is a fantastic detective story. Similarities and differences of these two kinds of a detective story are characterized in the article.
