Investigative activities of investigators, interrogators (bodies of inquiry), internal Affairs bodies and operational search authorities it is of great importance for detecting, investigating and solving crimes. It is an integral attribute of the state-legal policy of the Russian Federation in the field of fighting crime. Nevertheless, a careful study of its conceptual foundations in the Sciences of criminal law shows that a unified approach to defining the concept of search, the range of its objects and subjects, the legal regime and principles of implementation in the theories of operational search and criminal procedure law, as well as in criminology, unfortunately, has not yet developed. This article is staged; it focuses the attention of the reading audience on the initial provisions of investigative activities
