Bacteria of the genus Bacillus isolated from soils in the area of salt mining

Using method of enrichment culture seven bacterial strains of genus Bacillus have been isolated from soils in the area of salt mining. The analysis of REP- and BOX-PCR showed that the majority of the isolated strains formed one genomic group (I), strains SN501, I10b and I12b differed between each other in the REP- and BOXDNA profiles and formed three genomic groups (II, III and IV respectively). Strains SN501, I10b and I12b distinguished among each other in the ARDRA profiles and represented different genomic groups. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rDNA sequences indicated that strains I12b, I23 and I27 belonged to the genus Bacillus, strain I10b belonged to the genus Paenibacillus. The majority of the strains grew at 9-11% NaCl in cultural medium and under the alkaline conditions (pH 7.0-9.0). The strain Bacillus sp. SN501 grew on naphthalene as the sole source of carbon and energy at 5% of NaCl.
