The paper analyzes the main ideas of John Lo 's theory of credit embodied by him in the activities of the Banque générale founded in France in 1716. The main ideas of the economist are compared with those of representatives of schools such as Keynesianism and monetarianism. The study revealed that the ideas of state regulation of the economy and effective monetary policy are used in most countries of the world.
