The idea of social inclusion of disabled people and inclusive practices developed in modern society implies the identification and elimination of all barriers to their inclusion. The paper presents the findings of the expert survey on the barriers and resources of the social environment in Murmansk region from the perspective of the independent life of people with disabilities. The study reveals the practice of including disabled people in the regional society. The research results show that in Murmansk region efforts are made to eliminate the disabling barriers. Inclusive social processes are identified as well. However, it is necessary to enhance the resources of various social environments to provide an independent life for people with disabilities. This will allow them to better meet their needs, and the rest of society will be able to gain the positive experience of interaction in a situation of diversity.
