The process of volumetric sterilization by gamma-irradiation of composite cellular material actively used for bone defect replacement in medicine is studied. The purpose of this study is to substantiate the necessary doses of gamma-irradiation for sterilization of highly porous carbon material "Uglekon-MYA" without reducing its mechanical characteristics. The technique of volumetric sterilization of the material under study and its testing for microbiological sterility is described. The results of mechanical tests of samples before and after gamma-irradiation are given. Recommendations on selection of ionizing radiation doses providing microbicidal effect without reduction of strength properties during compression of the material under study are given.
