William Wordsworth's Thanksgiving Ode (1816) has been treated variously but always thought to be ambivalent, the author vacillates between celebration and trauma. Present article considers this ambivalence as a reflection of the traumatic experience of the author and his contemporaries, tracing main symptoms, efforts to overcome it, and solutions to take suggested by the national bard in anticipation of the attainments of psychological science of the ХХ-th century.
