Business charity work: origins and present state

The phenomenon of charity has existed since ancient times and largely characterizes any society and state, their economic, social, spiritual, and moral state, degree of maturity of the civil society. At the present stage of Russia’s socio-economic development characterized by lack of resources to solve important strategic tasks, assistance from business units is of particular relevance. In this regard, the article is aimed at studying charity work of economic entities in retrospect, taking into account its historical background and analysis of its current activity. The genesis of charity work development in Russia is presented with its distinctive features. Based on generalization of works of domestic and foreign experts, definitions of this category using institutional and functional approaches are systematized. The institutional features, goals and functions of charity work are defined.
