Short-and long-term results of combined modality treatment with the use of preoperative radiation therapy for cardiac gastric cancer

Treatment results in 94 patients with cardial gastric cancer were analysed. The study group patients (n=42) received combined modality treatment including preoperative large-fraction radiation therapy followed by surgery. The control group patients comprised 52 patients who underwent surgery alone. In the study group of patients, nickelide titanium implants were used for applying compression esophago-jejuno anastomosis. The rates of postoperative complications and operation-related lethality were tended to be reduced.
