The aim of this paper is to describe the Buddhist practice of salvation in the theory of the stages of the Path of Awakening. The soteriological teaching is the central idea of philosophical, religious and cultural context of Buddhism. The value of human birth is considered exclusively through the prism of the aspirations for Awakening - an ultimate goal of salvation from the timeless suffering. Buddhist thinkers developed a detailed theory of the stages of the Path of Awakening, which is based on the typology of personality in relation to religious practice for salvation. The attainment of Awakening in Gelug, or wider - in Mahayana Buddhism, is possible through three main ways of improvement: Shravakayana, Pratyeka-buddaayna and Mahayana, including the practice in Paramitayana and Mantrayana. The author comes to the conclusion that socio-cultural spiritual values of Buddhism play a crucial role in the functioning of the Buddhist clergy.
