The study considers a proposal to create a tourist and recreational territory in the Sennaya Bay area of Lake Onega for use as a “water entrance gate” to the Kizhi Museum Reserve. The Kizhi architectural ensemble, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, plays an important role in the development of the socio-economic situation in the Zaonezhye territory of the Medvezhegorsky Municipal District of the Republic of Karelia. However, due to restrictions on anthropogenic pressure on Kizhi Island, the full development of tourism in this region is difficult. In order to evenly distribute tourist activity and preserve the biological diversity of the protected area, it is proposed to expand the tourist destination by creating a tourist and recreational cluster in the Sennaya Bay area, taking into account the regimes in force in this area. This approach is due to the growing interest of tourists in multiday tours with accommodation at recreation centers located on the islands of the Kizhi Skerries. The implementation of this project will create a “gateway” that will connect Kizhi Island with neighboring territories, where tourism and hospitality will be developed with recreation centers and glamping facilities for tourists. This will significantly increase the flow of visitors to this attractive area of the Republic of Karelia, as well as diversify the services offered, while minimizing the negative impact on the island’s nature.
