The article presents the analysis of L.N. Gumilev and P.N.Savitsky’ relations based on their correspondence in 1956-1961. The analysis shows that L.N. Gumilev shouldn’t be regarded as a disciple of P.N. Savitsky because in the letters to Savitsky he mentioned M.I. Artamonov as his teacher. Long before that correspondence Gumilev’s university teachers were V.V. Struve and N.V. Kyuner. With mutual sympathy to the ideas of «eurasianism» Gumilev and Savitsky used different methodological approaches to history. In particular, Gumilev’s theory of ethnogenesis almost never used wide conceptions of «eurasianism».

L.n. gumilev, v.v. struve, "eurasianism", gumilev's theory of ethnogenesis, succession, p.n. savitsky, n.v. kyuner
