Everyday folk medicine of Yakuts

Traditional medicine is the main component of the traditional everyday culture of each ethnic community. The paper discusses the use of medicinal and helpful characteristic of plants in the everyday life of Yakuts, describes the collection, storage and preparation of these plants. The Yakuts knew more than 100 medicinal plants, from which they made infusions, powders, ointments. At the present stage of the society development, the Yakuts have information about the healing characteristics of fireweed narrow-leaved heap “kuchu”, sorrel pyramidal “kiihile”, common wormwood “uere oto”. Herbal knowledge has undergone a transformation process, improved and adapted to the modern world. The use of medicinal herbs in modern Yakut families indicates the preservation of the culture of the Sakha people. Author used field materials collected on the territory of Megino- Kangalas, Ust-Aldan and Nyurba uluses of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) in 2015-2018.
