Causes of traffic accidents with tractors on the territory of AP Vojvodina

Causes of traffic accidents, which were caused by tractors on the territory of AP Vojvodina in the period from January 1, 2013 to October 1, 2013, were analyzed. In the observed period, there were 148 accidents where tractors participated in. Out of the total number of accidents, 87 of them were caused by tractors. This means that tractor drivers caused accidents in 59% of cases. It was determined that lack of concentration, disregard of general traffic regulations and insufficient training for tractor drivers were main causes of traffic accidents (72%). In addition, traffic accidents were also caused by drunken tractor drivers (13%), technical malfunction of tractors (9%) and other unforeseen circumstances (6%). Accidents are often caused when tractors enter the roadway from yards, plots or dirt roads, or during driving when drivers change course abruptly, improperly and without giving signals when they intend to leave the main road. Out of the total number of accidents, 8.7% of them were caused by exceeding the speed limit, which means that the cause of this type of accident lies in lack of training for tractor drivers.
