The expediency of lifting the moratorium on the death penalty in order to minimize the commission of serious and especially serious crimes

Бесплатный доступ

This study analyzes one of the types of criminal punishment, namely the death penalty, with an emphasis on its relevance for the modern Russian Federation. The basis for the analysis is the tendency to increase the number of serious and especially serious crimes committed, in which there is an opinion that the nature of punishment does not correspond to the severity of the committed act. This contradiction causes problems of citizens' trust in the state justice system, since it, to some extent, turns out to be a defender of criminals, and also gives rise to the latter's lack of a sense of responsibility for their actions. In the light of the above circumstances, the discussion on the need to strengthen criminal liability measures for the commission of such crimes is intensifying. The purpose of the study is to assess the prospects for lifting the moratorium on the use of the death penalty as a means to solve the identified problem.
