Goals of Criminal Law. Past, Present, Future. The Legacy of I. Ya. Kozachenko: XXI International Scientifi c and Practical Conference “Kovalev Rea dings 2025”

Once again, the International Scientifi c and Practical Conference “Kovalev Readings 2025” was held in Yekaterinburg, which was dedicated to the scientifi c, pedagogical and creative heritage of Ivan Yakovlevich Kozachenko. The theme of the conference “The Objectives of Criminal Law. Past, Present, Future” was not chosen by chance. Professor I. Ya. Kazachenko raised the problems of the effectiveness of punishment in criminal law in his scientifi c works back in 1976, pointing out the lack of achievement of the goals set for criminal law, such as the prevention of crimes, the correction of offenders, compensation for damage and the restoration of social justice. In this regard, as part of the plenary session, reports were presented on the personal contribution of Professor I. Ya. Kozachenko to the formation and development of the Ural school of criminal law. Within the framework of individual sections, issues of the relationship between law and morality in criminal law, the effectiveness of criminal punishment, the protection of the information and legal space of the individual as the goal of criminal legislation, the intersection of criminal and civil law norms, the criminal liability of legal entities, as well as issues of the formation of scientifi c personnel were considered.
