Бесплатный доступ

Introduction. During decades in our society there has been a rather big mass of crimes which remain unsolved. The consequences of crimes constitute a new criminological phenomenon, that is, the cost of unsolved crimes paid by the society and the state. The purpose of the research is to define the concept of cost of unsolved crimes as a criminological phenomenon, its structure and measures to minimize it for the society and the state. Materials, Results and Discussion. Under modern conditions the society, unfortunately, fails to assess the risks arising during commission of crimes which long remain unsolved. On the macro-level there is no complex counteraction to the criminological phenomenon – unsolved crimes. Citizens are unwilling to participate in creation of additional tools and institutions aimed at prophylaxis and prevention of crimes. Only when people become themselves victims of particular crimes a chance for cooperation arises. Conclusions. Having their own characteristic features unsolved crimes constitute an accumulated mass of unsolved unlawful acts of previous years, which negatively influences the inevitability of punishment for committed crimes and determines the real cost of social consequences.
